While the Indianapolis Colts (0-1) fell to the Baltimore Ravens (1-0) on Thursday night, the bigger story is the status of 3rd-year quarterback Anthony Richardson’s injured right pinky before the regular season starts.

Colts head coach reportedly confirmed it was dislocated, which means that there’s still a strong possibility that Richardson could be ready for the regular season opener on Sunday, September 7th, hosting Miami in Week 1.

Richardson was injured near midway through the first quarter, when he apparently did not pick up Ravens edge David Ojabo, who was left unblocked, coming off the right side of the Indianapolis offensive line.

The 23-year-old quarterback is officially ‘day-to-day’ and finished his evening earlier than expected, completing 2 of 3 pass attempts for 21 total passing yards and no rushing carries.

That means that the other top challenger for the Colts QB1 job, Daniel Jones, saw some extended action. The former New York Giants franchise quarterback hopeful completed 10 of 21 passing attempts for 144 total passing yards.

Otherwise here are some of the key takeaways from the Colts preseason opener:

  • Tyler Warren: The Colts top rookie looked every bit the part, catching 3 passes early on for 40 total receiving yards—which you can view all of his receptions on the night here. He was 3 for 3 in targets.
  • AD Mitchell: After a dominant showing during the Colts training camp practice with the Ravens, Mitchell finished with 2 receptions for 37 total receiving yards—and was underthrown by Jones on a deep attempt.
  • Jelani Woods: The former 2022 3rd round pick tight end was playing late in this one, clearly fighting for a roster spot, but made the most of his opportunity. He caught two receptions for 23 total receiving yards.
  • Riley Leonard: The Colts rookie quarterback showcased his legs, having 4 carries for 34 total rushing yards, but also threw a tough interception under duress, near midway through the 4th quarter.
  • Hunter Wohler: The rookie linebacker from Wisconsin led the Colts with 9 tackles (6 solo).
  • Ade Adebawore: The rotational defensive lineman had one of the Colts two sacks on the night, with a nifty bull rush move.
  • JT Tuimoloau: The Colts’ 2nd round pick was active, finishing prematurely with 2 tackles, Indy’s other sack, 2 tackles for loss, a pass defensed, and 2 QB hits before leaving the game with a knee injury.
  • Joe Bachie: While the Colts linebacker got pushed around a bit in run defense, he excelled in pass coverage, picking off Ravens quarterback Devin Leary around the 10-yard line early in the 2nd quarter.
  • Spencer Shrader: The favorite to win the Colts kicking job was nearly perfect, going for 3/4, and only missing a 52-yard field goal attempt with twenty seconds left in the first half, clanking off the left upright. His competition undrafted rookie Maddux Trujillo only attempted an extra point in this one.
  • Rigoberto Sanchez: It was only preseason,...
