Football fans had a lot to say after new Indianapolis Colts principal owner and CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon detailed her habit of wearing a headset during games.
Carlie Irsay-Gordon was named the new owner and CEO of the Colts following the tragic passing of her father, Jim Irsay. The latter was the owner, chairman and CEO of the Colts from 1997 until his untimely passing at the age of 65, on May 21.
Irsay-Gordon now owns the team with her sisters, Casey Foyt and Kalen Jackson, with the former carrying the “principal owner” title. Foyt is the owner and executive vice president, with Jackson serving as owner, chief brand officer and president of the Indianapolis Colts Foundation.
Over the years, Carlie Irsay-Gordon has been frequently spotted roaming the Colts’ sidelines with a headset, worn by all the coaches. Irsay-Gordon had a fascinating explanation about the habit, per ESPN’s Stephen Holder:
“I need to be able to say, ‘Is this person full of BS? Do they even know what they’re talking about. It is such a complex organism, a football team and how it operates…
You could say, ‘Oh, that person ran that route wrong.’ Then you learn, ‘Oh, someone tagged the wrong WR and it wasn’t really the player’s fault, it was the person that called it. I would suggest it for anyone else that has to pay coaches and GMs millions and millions of dollars. It helps you make a less expensive mistake, potentially.”
While many Colts fans gave the explanation a thumbs up and fully support Irsay-Gordon’s philosophy here, others believe it’s going to backfire for the club:
“Even Jerry Jones hasn’t done this. This is not a good idea. Let’s see how far this goes,” one user said.
