The Indianapolis Colts announced on Tuesday the promotion of linebacker Austin Ajiake from their practice squad and the subsequent signing of center Jimmy Morrissey to replace him therein.
Having signed with the Colts back in 2023, Ajiake has remained within the Indianapolis organization. He was released as part of initial 53-man roster cuts this past offseason, but was a priority signing among practice squad members. He’s already appeared in 1 game for the Colts so far this year (against the Miami Dolphins in Week 1), recording 2 tackles (1 solo).
Meanwhile Morrissey was a 2021 7th round pick of the Raiders organization, but later joined the Houston Texans (2021-23) and New York Giants organizations (2024). He’s appeared in 14 career games (4 starts), all with the Texans from 2021-23.
Colts head coach Shane Steichen reportedly did not report any new injuries from Sunday’s thrilling closing second win against the Denver Broncos, so Ajiake may just be additional special teams/backup depth.
