College Football Playoff prospect preview: Players to watch on Alabama, Oklahoma
Field Gulls Field Gulls

As we all come down from the high of arguably the biggest win for the Seattle Seahawks in the post LOB era, an incredible football weekend continues with the second edition of the 12 team College Football Playoff.

While the Seahawks are preparing to go for their first division title since 2020 and their first top overall seed clinch since 2014, the scouting department is hard at work preparing for the NFL Draft.

Although this playoff is drawing more frustration than excitement due to the teams that are in (or not in), there’s still some fascinating players to keep an eye on this week as some of the best players will be taking the field in the biggest games of their lives.

Tonight, we have arguably the most fascinating game of the first round, as the No. 8 seed Oklahoma Sooners welcome the No. 9 seed Alabama Crimson Tide to Norman, Oklahoma. This epic blue blood battle will have strong northwest ties as both the Sooners and Tide have connections to both Washington schools.

Here’s a breakdown of the top prospects I’ll be looking at for the Seahawks from tonight’s battle for the right to go to the Rose Bowl.

Alabama Crimson Tide

Kadyn Proctor, OT – A consensus All-American at left tackle this season, Proctor has mostly lived up to the lofty expectations as a first round lock in the upcoming draft. A monster at 6-6 and over 350 lbs, Proctor’s ceiling is a franchise altering guard, but he could be a starting right tackle in the NFL.

I’d guess Seattle would have to trade up into the teens to get their hands on Proctor, but he’d be an immediate upgrade over Anthony Bradford.

LT Overton, Edge – A former five-star prospect, Overton is the classic case of a player that has all the tools and measurables to be a star as a power edge rusher who dominates in rush defense, but the stats don’t always show the production.

When I watch Overton’s tape, I see a similar comp to Derick Hall of the Seahawks. Just sheer power and talent that I’d love to see in the hands of Mike Macdonald. I think Overton is a real contender for the Seahawks first round pick.

Parker Brailsford, Center – In my opinion, Brailsford is one of the best center prospects in this draft class. A former star at Washington, he followed Kalen Deboer to Alabama, he’s been a consistent presence despite working with a different quarterback for the past three seasons.

I think the Seahawks are in decent shape with Jalen Sundell and Olu Oluwatimi, but you can make a case that Brailsford would be an upgrade.

Jaeden Roberts, Guard – Another talented offensive lineman, this truly is the strength of the Tide’s team. Roberts is yet another day two prospect who’s been a three year starter for Alabama at guard. This will be his second appearance in the CFP.
