After 29 years as an NFL head coach, Bill Belichick is headed back to college, where he’ll be the head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels. While this is a program known far more for its basketball prowess than football, no one is more proven as a leader than coach Belichick.
Yet, this is still a new territory for the future Hall of Famer, as he’s never coached in the college ranks before. Already proven in the NFL, what makes him think he can have just as much success in college?
While he’s yet to coach a single game at the college level, Belichick is already a big fan of one aspect of his new job. Specifically, he likes how coachable college football athletes are, in comparison to NFL players.
On some levels, it makes a lot of sense for college athletes to be far more receptive to the coaching they’re receiving. After all, if they want to make it to the pros, they’ll need to sharpen their skill set as much as possible.
Yet, in that same sense, it’s a bit odd that some NFL players aren’t more receptive to receiving coaching, especially from what should be the best coaches in the game. Even more so, it’s even odder that some wouldn’t want to gain as much knowledge as possible from Belichick, who some dub as the greatest coach of all time.
Either way, let’s hope all the athletes who have a chance to learn from Belichick at UNC take his advice this time around. Who knows? They might even end up with a championship ring or two on their hands.
