The Pittsburgh Steelers‘ reputation has historically carried significant weight. The last time they won a playoff game, however, Donald Trump hadn’t yet begun his first term in the White House, the Mannequin Challenge was cool and Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic” was one of the most popular songs.

Under longtime head coach Mike Tomlin, the Steelers haven’t finished with worse than a .500 record. Fox radio personality Colin Cowherd doesn’t want to hear any of that, however.

“This whole thing about Mike Tomlin not having a losing season … you know who has the longest streak in the NBA of not having a losing season?” Cowherd said Tuesday. “The Clippers. Fourteen. In their own city, the Lakers make fun of the Clippers. Jeanie Buss, the former owner, used to make fun of the Clippers, privately and publicly. They were a laughingstock. It didn’t matter if Steve Ballmer had 10 times the net worth. The Clippers are like the eye roll of Los Angeles.

“And they’ve got good people in the building. Ty Lue. You’re the Clippers.”

One major distinction between the six-time Super Bowl champion Steelers and the Clippers is that the latter hasn’t ever won a league title. They have won three playoff series since the 2019-20 season, however, and reached the Western Conference Finals in 2021.

The Steelers haven’t been successful in the postseason since January 2017. Since beating the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Divisional round on the road, Tomlin’s teams have lost six in a row by an average of 13.3 points.

Cowherd added that if Tomlin were coaching the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys or New England Patriots, he would’ve already been fired by now.

“This whole Tomlin thing, (Bill) Belichick and Andy Reid got let go,” Cowherd said. “It’s nothing against Mike. But this arbitrary ’21 years without a losing record,’ it means nothing.”
