Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Colby Wooden left the action in the first half against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday with a shoulder injury. Initially, he was declared as questionable to return, but coming out of the half, the Packers ruled him out for the rest of the game.
Wooden has been starting at nose tackle since Kenny Clark was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in the Micah Parsons trade. Without Wooden, Green Bay will just have three defensive tackles available to them: Devonte Wyatt, Karl Brooks and Nazir Stackhouse.
Wyatt just returned from a multi-week knee injury last week and played fewer snaps than Brooks and Wooden. Stackhouse has averaged about 10 snaps per game for the Packers as a rookie, but only played five last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Now, Green Bay will have to lean on Stackhouse to give Brooks and Wyatt breathers. On top of this, defensive end Lukas Van Ness, who has kicked inside to defensive tackle often this year, is inactive in this game with a foot injury.
To say the least, the Packers’ defensive interior is thin.
