The Cleveland Browns have added to their wide receiver room with a free agent signing this week, making their move for Diontae Johnson official.
Johnson is coming off a disastrous 2024 season in which he played for teams, and Cleveland is set to become his new home for who knows how long, with the organization announcing as much on Monday morning.
“The Browns added another veteran pass catcher to their receiving corps, as they have signed WR Diontae Johnson to a deal,” the team revealed via their official website.
This comes after the Browns decided to add a pair of quarterbacks last month, picking Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders during the 2025 NFL Draft. Their QB room now consists of Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Gabriel, and Sanders.
As for the receiving corps, Johnson is joining a group that includes Jerry Jeudy, Cedric Tillman, David Bell, Michael Woods II, DeAndre Carter, Jamari Thrash, Gage Larvadian, and Kaden Davis.
A Pro Bowler in 2021, Johnson was drafted as the No. 66 overall selection by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019. He signed a two-year extension ahead of 2022 before being traded to the Carolina Panthers heading into the 2024 season.
He was later dealt to the Baltimore Ravens, who released him after a suspension for behavior related to disenchantment with his role on the team. The Houston Texans picked him up, but he was also cut during the playoffs for similar conduct.
The Ravens signed him again until the end of their campaign. He is now joining the Browns as a free agent.
Johnson made 12 appearances for the Panthers, Ravens, and Texans in 2024, recording 33 passes, 375 receiving yards, and three touchdowns.
