The Cleveland Browns have a busy four-way competition for the starting quarterback job, but it didn’t stop them from adding Tyler Huntley to the room on Monday.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Browns have signed Tyler Huntley, growing their quarterback room to six. Veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett are competing with rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders for the QB1 job, and Deshaun Watson is expected to miss all of 2025 after re-tearing his Achilles.

As Schefter noted, Pickett (hamstring), Gabriel (hamstring) and Sanders (shoulder) are all dealing with injuries. Signing Huntley provides a little insurance for the time being, but there’s obviously a long way to go in locking down one of the Browns’ 53-man roster spots.

Sources: Browns are signing QB Tyler “Snoop” Huntley, who spent part of last season with Cleveland. With Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel nursing hamstring injuries, and Shedeur Sanders having a sore shoulder, the Browns need another arm. The Browns signed Tyler Huntley last year, only to release him ahead of the regular season. He earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2022 despite making just four starts in place of an injured Lamar Jackson, throwing two touchdowns and three interceptions in those contests.

Tyler Huntley nearly led the Baltimore Ravens to an upset over the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2022 Wild Card Round, falling 24-17 in a hard-fought contest. Huntley had 226 passing yards, two touchdowns and 54 rushing yards in that contest.

Huntley also started five games for the Miami Dolphins last season in place of an injured Tua Tagovailoa, going 2-3 with a 64.7 completion percentage, 829 passing yards, three touchdowns, 135 rushing yards and two rushing scores.

Tyler Huntley Has Asserted Himself As A Reliable Backup

The 27-year-old Huntley had to start four games for the Ravens in place of an injured Lamar Jackson during the 2021 season. Though he went 1-3, Huntley nearly led the Ravens to upset against Aaron Rodgers’ Green Bay Packers and the playoff-bound Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 18.

Huntley has flashed his potential as a dual-threat QB. Even if he doesn’t make the Browns’ final roster, Huntley shouldn’t have to wait long for another contract.
