Cleveland Browns Set Second-Round Coaching Interviews with Six Candidates

Seven NFL head coaching vacancies remain this offseason, and the Cleveland Browns are one of them. Browns fans just watched their former head coach, Kevin Stefanski, get hired as the new coach of the Atlanta Falcons.

But who will be the Browns’ next head coach? That process is ongoing, but Cleveland could be close to reaching a conclusion.

Cleveland now has a group of six second-round interviews set with their preferred coaching candidates. Those coaches are:

  • Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz
  • Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski
  • Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter
  • Los Angeles Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase
  • Former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken
  • Former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel

The Browns started with nine initial interviews. They’ve seemingly become uninterested in speaking with Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Aden Durde, Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher, and Browns offensive coordinator Tommy Rees for a second time.

With six candidates apparently still in the running, Scheelhaase’s team is the only one still alive in the playoffs.

There’s also been heavy speculation that Monken could follow John Harbaugh to New York, where he’d become their offensive coordinator. Yet, Monken seems to be holding out hope that he can land a head coaching opportunity instead, and it could come in Cleveland.

With their group continuing to get narrowed down by the day, it’s very possible the Browns will make a decision on their next head coach before the end of the week.
