Cleveland Browns Rumored To Be Eyeing Shocking Quarterback Move

The Cleveland Browns have a good kind of problem on their hands this summer, too many quarterbacks. With Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders all vying for spots, things are heating up in Berea. Most teams don’t carry four quarterbacks into the regular season, but Cleveland might just be the exception.

The usual thinking says someone will get cut or traded before Week 1. But according to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, that might not happen.

Cabot reported that the Browns are “likely” to carry all four quarterbacks into the 2025 season. And with a combined cap hit of just $7.6 million, it’s not hard to see why the team might keep the group intact, at least for now.

No Rush To Trim The Room

Thanks to manageable contracts and a still-recovering Deshaun Watson, Cleveland has the financial flexibility to stash four quarterbacks. Cabot noted that the experienced arms of Flacco and Pickett currently lead the depth chart, but the organization appears unwilling to entertain trade interest in Gabriel or Sanders, at least at this stage.

“They can afford to keep all four from a financial standpoint,” Cabot wrote, “and it also makes sense from a roster-building standpoint.”

Still, the situation could shift quickly. Cabot suggested that if the Browns fall out of playoff contention, they’d “undoubtedly consider” moving one of the veterans. And if an offer rolls in that’s too good to ignore, especially around roster cutdown day on August 27, Cleveland might listen. According to Cabot, Flacco is the most likely trade candidate in that scenario.

“If a team loses a QB before Nov. 4,” she added, “the Browns might be willing to part with one of them, most likely a veteran, and probably most likely Flacco.”

While the team sorts through its current logjam, Cabot also mentioned that the Browns are still keeping an eye on next year’s draft class. So, even with four quarterbacks in the building, the search for the long-term answer under center might not be over just yet.
