The Cleveland Browns quarterback competition at the start of training camp did not provide many opportunities for Shedeur Sanders to prove himself with the first-team offense. Just days after finally getting a shot, he is now sidelined by an injury.
The Browns announced on Saturday morning, per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, that Sanders was held out of team drills on Sunday due to arm soreness.

With Kenny Pickett sidelined and 40-year-old quarterback Joe Flacco having his reps managed, Sanders received first-team reps this week for the first time since Browns training camp began. Previously, he had mostly taken limited reps with the backup offense, operating as the fourth-string quarterback behind Flacco, Pickett, and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel.
On Saturday, Sanders participated in a walkthrough and ran sprints but was kept out of all team drills and did not throw any passes after practice, as the Browns took a cautious approach with their fifth-round pick.

Cleveland did not practice on Sunday, giving Sanders’ arm at least 48 hours of rest before the team returns to the field on Monday. Pickett, sidelined with a hamstring injury, was also out of practice Saturday, so Flacco and Gabriel took all the reps.
By the time Sanders is fully cleared to throw without limitations, Pickett could also be ready to return to team drills. If that happens, Sanders would likely return to the fourth spot on the depth chart, receiving the fewest reps among the four quarterbacks.
