Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam has offered some insight into Arch Manning’s career plans amid rumors that his team might already be looking to draft the Texas Longhorns quarterback in 2026.
While the Browns have five players in their QB room, expectations aren’t high for them. Deshaun Watson’s career is considered to be over by some, while Kenny Pickett hasn’t gotten off to the greatest start as he’s already being bothered by a hamstring injury.
Rookie Dillon Gabriel isn’t thought to have inspired much confidence, and Shedeur Sanders’ monumental slip has seen his stock plunge.
Joe Flacco gave a very good account of himself on the last go with the Browns and is the favorite to start for the team in 2025. Even so, people are of the view that the team could be in a position to snag a top five QB next year.
As such, the Browns are linked to Manning, especially because their owner has a relationship with his family and the SEC. But Haslam isn’t having any of it.
In fact, he claims he doesn’t expect the QB to enter the next NFL Draft.
“I don’t know Arch at all,” he said on Tuesday, per Daniel Oyefusi. “I bet he stays in college two more years. I don’t even think that’s worth discussing.”
Haslam has a thing for creating headlines, but clearly did the right thing here as it would be incredibly bizarre to show interest in a prospect before a season even starts, especially one who isn’t sure to declare.
He’s likely not wrong about Arch’s plans either, given that it would probably be in the QB’s best interest to milk the college experience before making the step up.
It’s not like he’ll be wanting for cash either, with the sums being thrown around in this NIL era, although Donald Trump’s new order could have a telling impact.
