The Cleveland Browns have had two different starting quarterbacks this season, but Deshaun Watson isn’t one of them. On Sunday, Shedeur Sanders made his first start, meaning the Browns have now had three different starting QBs this season.
While Watson hasn’t seen the field at all this season, the Browns did make a change with their $230 million quarterback on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders.
For the first time all season, the Browns had Watson travel with the team to their road game. He had not previously accompanied the team on any road trips this season.
Though, according to Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the reason for Watson flying with the team today is so that he can work closely with Shedeur on the sideline during the game. He’s been a “tremendous help” to Sanders and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel this season.
However, while Watson is helping Sanders, this is also the first time he’s been healthy enough to be on the sideline for a full NFL game. Watson’s status on the roster remains unchanged. He’s still on the team’s reserve/physically unable to perform list.
The Browns can open up his 21-day practice window at any time, which would give the team three weeks to determine whether they want to activate Watson to the roster or leave him out for the rest of the year. Watson is recovering from two Achilles surgeries.
