An up-close look at Shedeur Sanders vs. Dillon Gabriel brought an honest assessment from an insider.

Zac Jackson of The Athletic discussed the Browns quarterback situation and spoke on Shedeur Sanders’ chances of winning the quarterback competition, Joe Flacco’s leadership, Myles Garrett’s absence from OTAs, and more.

Jackson made it clear that Sanders was making noise, stating, “I watch him. He is talented. I don’t see the other guy impressing at all. He does not look like an NFL QB.”

It appears the other guy might be Dillon Gabriel.

At the end of his statement, he agreed that veteran Joe Flacco is winning the competition right now, with Shedeur Sanders right behind him.

Gabriel was surprisingly picked two rounds ahead of Sanders in the 2025 NFL draft, going in the third round, while the former Colorado signal-caller was selected in the fifth.

Flacco might be 40, but he is still serviceable and has a history with the team. He played for the Browns under head coach Kevin Stefanski in 2023.

In his first stint with the Browns, Flacco started five regular-season games, totaling 1,616 passing yards, 13 passing touchdowns, eight interceptions, and a 90.2 passer rating, while completing 60.3% of his passes. Cleveland went 4-1 in those five games, with Flacco helping it earn an AFC wild-card berth.

Shedeur Sanders is impressive right now and bodes well for later.

Shedeur Sanders Out To Prove His Doubters Wrong

Former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders is one of five different quarterbacks in the Cleveland Browns quarterback room.

The Browns signed free agent quarterbacks Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett and drafted two rookies, Sanders and former Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel.

Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson is the lone 2024 Browns quarterback returning, but he might be out for the year.

During recent OTAs, Sanders showcased impressive skills but is expected to have “almost zero” chance of securing the starting quarterback position.

He might not win out now, but 2026 is quickly approaching, and that just might be his year.
