The Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback competition is underway, and everyone wants to know how Shedeur Sanders is handling himself. While he may not be the in-house favorite to start, Sanders is a polarizing prospect that’s generated a great amount of interest.
Training camp has only just begun, but with the Browns getting ready for their first preseason game on Friday, August 8, against the Carolina Panthers, some want to know where the quarterbacks stand.
On Monday, the Browns revealed their first depth chart, revealing where Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and the two rookies – Dillon Gabriel + Sanders stand.
To no surprise, the Browns’ first depth chart is exactly how everyone expected:
Each of the Browns’ quarterbacks is a new arrival this season. Yet, with Flacco bringing 17 years of experience to the table, it’s no surprise that the veteran would have an early leg up on the competition. However, as we’ve seen in years past, just because a vet is slated to start right away, it doesn’t always mean he’ll end the season as the starter, giving plenty of hope for the trio of youngsters too.
While Flacco may be the top QB on the Browns’ depth chart, it doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll start the team’s first preseason game. Head coach Kevin Stefanski may prefer to give his younger QBs all the reps they can handle, while giving the 40-year-old Flacco a day off.
