The Cleveland Browns announced a concerning injury update on quarterback Shedeur Sanders that bears watching ahead of their preseason opener next Friday.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Browns announced that Shedeur Sanders is being held out of Saturday’s practice drills because of “shoulder soreness.” Further details aren’t available at this time.

Sanders is in a four-way competition with Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel for Cleveland’s QB1 job. It has been widely reported that Flacco and Pickett are the two front-runners, but with the regular season still five weeks away, Sanders and Gabriel still have time to strengthen their cases.
The 23-year-old Shedeur Sanders had an excellent final season at Colorado, completing 74.0 percent of pass attempts for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Cleveland selected Sanders in the fifth round at No. 144 overall.
As the consensus No. 2 quarterback in this year’s class (behind Miami’s Cam Ward, the first overall pick), the Colorado product was expected to be an early first-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Falling out of the first two rounds was stunning enough, but the slide continued into round five until the Browns finally took a chance on Sanders. Soon enough, we’ll see if 31 other teams were right to pass on Sanders, or if the Browns hit the jackpot.
