While the Philadelphia Eagles move forward without AJ Brown, former player CJ Gardner-Johnson signed with the Bills. And Gardner-Johnson took a moment to call out former teammate Saquon Barkley about the trade of Brown.

He seems gleeful that the Eagles have made a key personnel change, according to The Athletic.

“Saquon (Barkley), I hope you’re happy!” Gardner-Johnson said. “You see that band’s getting broken up.”

When he lines up for the Bills this fall, it will be the sixth NFL team in his eight-year career. A former fourth-round pick, Gardner-Johnson played three years with the Saints from 2019-21. Since then, he played for the Eagles (2022), Lions (2023), Eagles (2024), Texans (2025), and Bears (2025). He has not earned a Pro Bowl nod, and started a full slate of games only once, in 2024.

Bills CB CJ Gardner-Johnson still making noise

Gardner-Johnson’s style has rubbed people the wrong way, Tim Graham of The Athletic wrote.

“His trash-talking antics and ball-hawking prowess have caused those around him to react abruptly,” Graham wrote. “His belligerence prompted two opposing receivers — plus New Orleans Saints teammate Michael Thomas at practice — to throw punches at him. Every boss Gardner-Johnson played for has either traded him, declined to re-sign him, or released him.

Gardner-Johnson said he doesn’t seem to get a fair evaluation by the NFL.

“One of the narratives is I’m a cancer in the locker room,” Gardner-Johnson said. “That just came out when? After Houston? Where was that after the Super Bowl loss? Where was that after the Super Bowl win? When we do our homework and really think about it, where have I been a cancer?

“My grandma always told me, ‘You need to be patient to be cocky.’ That’s just what it is. I’ve been patient enough to be blessed, patient enough to win a Super Bowl. That’s my ultimate goal.

“I’ve been slapped in the face by the business so many times to the point where it’s, like … I don’t look at other guys no more. I look at myself and how I can affect things, just go in the building, make plays.”
