The Cincinnati Bengals have had a challenging season, headlined by Joe Burrow being forced to miss nine games with a turf toe injury. Now that Burrow has been back in the lineup for the past three games, it almost feels as if nothing has changed. After all, they’ve gone 1-2 since his return, and have now been eliminated from playoff contention.
With the Bengals now entering Week 16 with a 4-10 record, some are wondering if it’s time to dismiss head coach Zac Taylor or general manager Duke Tobin. Or perhaps defensive coordinator Al Golden, with the Bengals allowing an NFL-high 31.6 points per game.
Yet, The Athletic’s Bengals insider Paul Dehner believes firing coach Taylor “sounds very unlikely.” Adding more, he suggests there’s been “zero thought” of the GM, Tobin, being relieved of his duties either.
Now, for the tidbit all Bengals fans surely don’t want to hear, “the most likely scenario” involves Golden getting another season to prove his worth too.
While this season didn’t go the way anyone in the Bengals’ organization imagined when it began, there’s nothing anyone could do about Burrow missing most of the season. Of course, some would suggest that the Bengals would have difficulties competing with how their defense and rushing attack have been lackluster all season long.
