Cincinnati Bengals May Have New Plans with Trey Hendrickson Trade

This past offseason, with no long-term contract extension in sight, All-Pro pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson requested a trade from the Cincinnati Bengals. A long battle ensued, and at one point, it looked like Hendrickson might actually hold out and be willing to sit out of regular season games just to angle for a new contract.

Thankfully, both Hendrickson and the Bengals were able to avoid that mess by coming to terms on a one-year pay raise for last year’s sack leader. Yet, while that amendment was good enough to coax Hendrickson to get on the field, it didn’t do anything to clear up his long-term fit in Cincinnati.

Now, according to ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Bengals’ trade plans with Hendrickson may be changing. Heading into Sunday’s slate, Schefter reported that the Bengals previously had not wanted to trade Hendrickson, but after the Bengals dropped to 3-6 with Sunday’s loss, Cincinnati may be much more willing to deal the 30-year-old four-time Pro Bowler.

Hendrickson was actually sidelined on Sunday as he deals with a hip injury. Yet, he’s still been extremely effective when healthy, recording four sacks in six games. That’s behind his pace from last season’s 17.5 sack year, but a few strong games could put him right back on track. Yet, those sacks could end up coming with a different team, depending on trade negotiations before Tuesday’s deadline.
