Pittsburgh Steelers long snapper Christian Kuntz revealed some insight on Mike Tomlin’s final team meeting. The news caught everyone by surprise. There was no indication that Tomlin had plans of resigning.

“It was an emotional meeting. That sucked. It was crazy. I don’t even know, man. It was sad,” Kuntz said on his podcast. “There was no weird feeling besides that we lost and everyone’s sad that the season’s over and like, we found out and by the time we got outta the meeting and he had told us it was on ESPN. So that’s so crazy. But a lot of respect to Coach T. He wanted to tell us. He could have let us hear that on ESPN, but he waited, he kept it eal quiet, obviously, and told us. The guys were shocked. Like, I’m telling you right now, guys were shocked based on what I saw emotionally wise in there and what went down. Guys were shocked.”

The Steelers now head into a new era. The changing of the guard will take some time for Kuntz to get used to.

“I don’t have really any words, I’m not gonna lie. Like, I didn’t even want to come in today,” Kuntz said. “You just lost a guy that has been here for 19 seasons that knows how this organization runs inside and out when we go to Latrobe, when we have rain days, when small shit that people probably don’t think about that he’s been doing for 20 years. Change is never comfortable. Change is always uncomfortable. So, who knows what that means. I have one more year on my contract. Does that mean jack shit? No.

“At the end of the day, they could do whatever they wanna do, but the guys that aren’t on contract, it’s honestly scary, a scary time.

“It’s definitely a dark day, dark days, I feel right now. But yeah, there’s light at the end of the tunnel for sure, as always.”

Kuntz also revealed that Tomlin has no desire of coaching any other team.

“He did make a point to tell us he was stepping down and he had no intentions on coaching any other guys but the guys he was looking at.”

Tomlin indicated to Steelers president Art Rooney II that he wouldn’t be coaching again in the near future and wanted to spend time with his family.
