The 2024 season brought with it the hope and optimism of the new regime for the Seattle Seahawks. Gone wer Pete Carroll and the coaching staff he had assembled, with Mike Macdonald and a new bunch running the show.
Two of those members of the new bunch were offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb and offensive line coach Scott Huff, who set to overhaul the offensive line, a group that had struggled for much of the past decade under Carroll.
To that end, during the 2024 offseason the Seahawks signed free agent Laken Tomlinson, then drafted Christian Haynes, Sataoa Laumea and Michael Jerrell, before adding Connor Williams during training camp.
None of those five is on the 2025 initial 53-man roster Seattle announced Tuesday afternoon.
Williams, of course, abruptly retired in the middle of the 2024 season, and Tomlinson signed with the Houston Texans in free agency in the spring. That left just the three second year players added in the draft last year.
However, reports emerged earlier Tuesday that the Seahawks had agreed to trade Michael Jerrell to the Atlanta Falcons, and then later in the day the team announced they had waived Laumea and place Haynes on injured reserve with a designation to return.
Haynes must now remain on injured reserve for a minimum of four weeks, and will be eligible to return to the 53-man roster ahead of the Seahawks hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Lumen Field in Week 5.
And now itโs on to Week 1 and the San Francisco 49ers.
