The Kansas City Chiefs are determined to have a strong comeback in the 2026 season after a disappointing 2025 campaign, during which they missed the playoffs for the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era. As Mahomes recovers from a torn ACL and secures a significant contract extension, the offense urgently needs its supporting players to step up. Fortunately, second-year wide receiver Xavier Worthy seems ready for a breakout season after overcoming his own injury issues last year.

Head coach Andy Reid praised the young wideout during mandatory minicamp, telling Sports Radio 810 WHB that Worthy appears significantly stronger and is adapting well to various key positions within the offensive system.

This praise from Reid reflects Worthy’s own positive outlook on his future. In an interview with NBC Sports about his mindset following an injury-plagued sophomore year, Worthy confidently stated, “I know the kind of player I can be. The things I can do on the field, what I can bring to the team.” Instead of allowing past physical limitations to hinder his progress, he is using the offseason to refine his skills and prove that he can be a central figure in the Chiefs’ passing game.

This stability is especially important as his fellow receiver deals with challenges off the field. Worthy recently spoke about Rashee Rice, who is currently serving a 30-day jail sentence for a probation violation. Nate Taylor of ESPN confirmed that Rice will miss most of the offseason program but is expected to return for training camp.

Worthy told PJ Green of the Kansas City Star that he will fully support his teammate during this time. Expressing a strong brotherly bond, Worthy said, “That’s my guy,” and noted that he talks to Rice daily and is continuously praying for him.
