The Chiefs are finalizing a four-year extension with franchise-tagged right guard Trey Smith, according to FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz.
The deal is worth $92MM with $70MM in guaranteed money, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Nate Taylor. Though the $23MM APY is a slight downgrade from the $23.4MM franchise tag Smith signed in March, it will keep him as the highest-paid guard in league history and reset the position’s market by $2MM. Smith’s total guarantees will also set a new record for the position by $7MM, per OverTheCap.
More to come.
