On Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs’ playoff hopes came to an official end with a brutal home loss to the divisional rival Los Angeles Chargers. The loss sank the Chiefs to 6-8 on the season, and things turned from bad to worse late in the game when quarterback Patrick Mahomes went down with what was later revealed to be a torn ACL.

Now, for the first time, Chiefs former star tight end Travis Kelce is breaking his silence on the injury.

“He’s gonna make sure that he comes back stronger than ever. Hopefully, the Chiefs can get him back as soon as possible,” said Kelce on the New Heights Podcast, which he hosts alongside his brother and fellow NFL legend, Jason Kelce.

The Mahomes injury was the latest in a series of unfortunate events that have transpired for the Chiefs this season on the heels of their three straight AFC Championship wins and two Super Bowl victories from 2022-2024. Kansas City saw regression in virtually every area of its roster this year, including tight end, where Kelce is clearly nowhere near the player he once was, causing some to speculate on whether a retirement announcement could be on the horizon this offseason.

Meanwhile, athletes are recovering from ACL tears faster than ever before in the modern era, so Chiefs fans will hope that Mahomes’ recovery process is a (relatively) quick one and that he is able to contribute to the team at some point next season.

The Chiefs will next take the field on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.
