The Kansas City Chiefs interestingly didn’t do much to improve their situation at wide receiver this offseason, leaving them banking on their returning stars to carry a heavy load in 2026. That includes Rashee Rice, but there are a number of questions surrounding the SMU product during the summer.

First, Rice was taken back to jail recently for violating his probation. He was there for 30 days and was released on Tuesday, able to rejoin the Chiefs. However, he is still rehabbing a knee injury after he had a cleanup procedure this offseason. Rice had the procedure shortly before the probation violation and has been rehabbing while in prison.

Now, Rice is back on track to be ready for the season. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler gave a promising injury update on Rice while also touching on a potential suspension for the probation violation.

“He was worried about maybe getting an infection while in prison because he couldn’t rehab like he normally would,” Fowler said. “He did his best over the last 30 days to do so. He did emerge with no major issues, so he’s gonna rehab that over the next six weeks and get ready for training camp.

“I’m told that he hopes, because this is a preexisting case that he was dealing with and has already been suspended for through the league, that he doesn’t face additional punishment from the NFL but that has yet to be determined.”

Rice had a major knee injury early in the 2024 season that kept him out for the rest of the year and really hurt the Chiefs’ offense, so Andy Reid and company will be fully focused on getting him back on the field for Week 1.

The star receiver was suspended for the first six games in 2025 for violating the personal conduct policy after he ran from a multi-vehicle crash in March of 2024.

When Rice is on the field, he is one of the best weapons in the AFC. The Chiefs likely need him to compete for a championship this season, so his rehab will be a story to watch this summer.
