According to a report from the Kansas City Star’s Sam McDowell, the Kansas City Chiefs have “informed administrative officials” that on Monday afternoon, they will announce the construction of a new stadium in Kansas — pending the expected approval of the Kansas Legislative Coordinating Council (LCC).
Team chairman and CEO Clark Hunt and team president Mark Donovan are both participating in Monday’s LCC meeting. Reports indicate that Kansas governor Laura Kelly will announce the team’s move across the state line in a news conference getting underway at 3 p.m. Arrowhead Time.
The team has been located in Kansas City, Missouri since it moved from Dallas in 1962. It played its games at Municipal Stadium — once located at 22nd and Brooklyn — until Arrowhead Stadium was opened in the Truman Sports Complex in 1972. The team will continue to play its games at Arrowhead at least until its current lease expires at the end of the 2031 season.
