Rookies for the Kansas City Chiefs will be reporting to the team’s training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph later today. When we are able to see the full squad next week, rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane will be among the players under the most scrutiny. Because of the price the Chiefs gave up moving up three slots to sixth overall for Delane, there will be little patience for talk of a rookie curve.
When assessing his camp, we will need to remember that cornerback mistakes are often magnified, and the position is rarely noticed when a player is performing well. That said, Delane needs to establish himself as one of the best in the league at his position quickly.

There are two truths when it comes to rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane:
1. Because the team traded up to select him with the No. 6 pick, he needs to be an immediate starter.
2. He didn’t get off to a smooth start in spring practices, sitting out mandatory minicamp with a shoulder injury.
The second note might seem minor, but it could quickly turn into a big deal if Delane shows any ill effects when he arrives this week.

In his pre-draft scouting report for Iowa safety Xavier Nwankpa, Bleacher Report’s Daniel Harms graded the 6’3″ 208-pounder as a fourth-round pick while touting his physicality against the run.
“Nwankpa is routinely in the right place,” Harms said. “As such, he can wear a multitude of hats for a defense. He excels as a box safety, reading out plays and triggering downhill to make big hits…”

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Even a month ago, when the Kansas City Chiefs finished their mandatory minicamp, pass rusher Chris Jones acknowledged a reality that to him felt odd.
“It’s been a while since I’ve had this long of a break with football,” Jones said, referencing the Chiefs missing the playoffs last season for the first time since 2014.
Jones and the rest of the Chiefs have spent the past several weeks on another extended break, too, a hiatus that will be 42 days before training camp begins next week. When Jones rejoins his teammates on the practice fields on Missouri Western State’s campus, he and some of the Chiefs’ most prominent veterans have vowed to keep last season in their minds.
