A boom-or-bust storyline ahead of Kansas City Chiefs training camp is the return of cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.
Less than three years ago, Sneed was a shutdown cornerback in the Chiefs’ defense. He has objectively underperformed since that championship season in 2023, leading to his release by the Tennessee Titans with two years remaining on a four-year deal that guaranteed Sneed $55 million.
Soon, we will find out if Sneed can perform like the player worthy of that contract just a few years ago. It is clearly Sneed’s goal ahead of this season.

Now at 29 years old, Snead inked a league minimum deal of $1.215 million to rejoin the Chiefs (on top of the $3 million Tennessee must pay him in 2026) and will return to his origins in hopes of reclaiming his identity and putting his mark back on the NFL in what will be his seventh professional season.
“Reclaim who I am,” Sneed told KTLA News of his intentions in 2026.
“Not to prove anything, but to show people I am who I was,” he continued.

None of Sneed, Kohou, Roland-Wallace or Canady made our list of the top 25 Chiefs entering the 2026 season, but all four have a path to become a starter and one of Kansas City’s most vital defenders this year.
For now, Canady may have the longest path. That’s not cause for alarm; Canady is still the team’s best-case long-term solution, potentially building an excellent young trio with Delane and Williams in 2027 and beyond. But with three more veteran players ahead of him, he’d have to prove quite a lot in camp to take the starting role.

Prior to joining the Chiefs, Knowles was starter at nickelback at Florida State in 2024, tallying 32 tackles, four pass-breakups, two tackles-for-loss and a sack in 12 games.
