The Chiefs’ Rashee Rice is getting out of a Texas jail after a 30-day sentence | KCUR

Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice’s stretch in a Texas jail is coming to an end, but it wasn’t without its bumps.

Rice, 26, is scheduled for release Tuesday.

One bump concerned his knee. Just before he was sent to the Dallas County Jail on May 19, Rice had knee surgery. His lawyer requested a court order to allow Rice to receive treatment while locked up.

“The Court grants the Defendant’s request and recommends the Sheriff’s Department to provide the Defendant transportation to Parkland for knee therapy,” the May 28 court order said.

Parkland Memorial Hospital, Dallas County’s public hospital, didn’t perform Rice’s knee surgery, but it was used for “outside medical needs,” Rice’s lawyer, Thomas McMurray, told KCUR.

How Chiefs Coach Andy Reid Will Spend His Summer Break | Forbes

“If you stay in the city, you’re going to dive in and do stuff — at least I am,” Reid exclusively shared from the State Farm shoot. “I’m better when I get away.”

Of course, Reid, who is known for his work ethic, which can include burning the midnight oil with film review or going to the Chiefs’ facility before sunrise, will not completely unplug.

But he’ll do so in an idyllic setting.

“It’s a lot easier looking at the waves,” he said. “It keeps you in a good environment.”

Instead of his 12 hours or so of a typical workday, Reid said he might spend an hour or two breaking down film or on play design.

“Out of a 24-hour day, that’s not bad,” he said. “It’s not intense or all of that. That’s not what it is.”

Kansas City Chiefs

2025 Rank: 20th

Best-Case Scenario: Kenneth Walker Steadies the Ground Game with Patrick Mahomes at 100 Percent

The once-vaunted Kansas City Chiefs offense had two big problems in 2025, even before Patrick Mahomes suffered a season-ending ACL tear. They lacked reliable pass-catchers who could generate big plays, and they struggled to field a functional ground game.

Ideally, the offseason addition of reigning Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III will take care of the second problem. While Kansas City’s receiving corps is still questionable, the Chiefs will need Mahomes to be healthy and at 100 percent for most of the season to significantly rebound in the passing game.

Fortunately, Mahomes is recovering well and was even a participant at OTAs.

If Walker can deliver a top-tier rushing attack and Mahomes can, well, be Mahomes, Kansas City should return to having an above-average offense.
