The Game
For the NFL’s Week 6, the (2-3) Kansas City Chiefs host the (4-1) Detroit Lions on GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium for “Sunday Night Football.” Kickoff is scheduled for 7:20 p.m. Arrowhead Time on NBC and Peacock — locally on KSHB/41.
The Lions come into this matchup on the heels of four consecutive wins — all but one of them by multiple scores. They lead the NFL in points scored and rank sixth in yards gained. In contrast, Detroit’s defense ranks eighth in yards allowed, but only 16th in points given up.
Detroit will face a Chiefs team that is desperately in need of a win. A victory would bring Kansas City to 3-3, a record that two of head coach Andy Reid’s squads have recorded during his 12-season tenure. Finishing the season 9-7, the 2014 team was the last to miss the postseason. Then in 2021, Kansas City took its 12-5 record into the playoffs, hammering the Pittsburgh Steelers 42-21 before beating the Buffalo Bills 42-36 in overtime after an unforgettable 13-second drive to close regulation. But in the AFC Championship, the Cincinnati Bengals collected a 27-24 overtime win over the Chiefs.
But should Kansas City lose Sunday’s matchup, the franchise’s history is not encouraging. Eight Chiefs teams have started their seasons 2-4. None of them made the postseason — and only the 1989 unit’s 8-7-1 record was above 0.500.
