At the start of the fourth quarter in Sunday’s 28-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills, right tackle Jawaan Taylor was seen down on the field for the Kansas City Chiefs before limping to the sideline.

After the game, head coach Andy Reid confirmed that Taylor had injured his ankle without elaborating on the severity.

“We had one injury coming out of it,” Reid said in his postgame comments. “It was Jawaan Taylor, who hurt his right ankle.”

Taylor was announced as questionable to return, but swing tackle Wanya Morris finished the game on the right side.

Briefly, the Chiefs were without a second offensive lineman as left guard Kingsley Suamataia also limped off of the field on the Chiefs’ next drive. Backup Mike Caliendo took a single snap in his place before Suamataia returned to the field on the same drive.

Tight end Travis Kelce went into the locker room just before halftime after a taking a hit from Bills safety Cole Bishop in the end zone. Kelce was back on the field as the third quarter started, catching a five-yard pass on the first play of the second half. The Chiefs confirmed that Kelce had cleared the league’s concussion protocol.

Reid did not discuss injury concerns surrounding Suamataia or Kelce. With Kansas City’s bye falling in Week 10, any potential updates on Taylor may also be delayed by the break. Reid did confirm that the week off would be important for all injured players to get needed treatment. Ten Chiefs players appeared on Week 9’s final injury report.

“Rest up and we’ll come back strong,” said the coach. “That’s what we do. The guys who are nicked up here — or throughout the year — they’ve got to make sure they get in and get it worked on.”
