The Kansas City Chiefs should be motivated by revenge during the 2026 season. Kansas City had a shockingly terrible 2025 season, finishing 6-11 for their worst record in several years. But the Chiefs could have a much better offense in 2026, especially if one third-year player has a breakout season.

The Athletic’s Jesse Newell answered some mailbag questions from Chiefs fans following the conclusion of mandatory minicamp.

“If the Chiefs had a summer practice MVP, it would’ve been Worthy,” Newell wrote on Thursday. “He not only brought down several deep throws but also showed a greater route arsenal, which included flashing chemistry with quarterback Patrick Mahomes on a back-shoulder red zone touchdown during one day’s seven-on-seven drills.”

Worthy had an injury-riddled 2025 season, starting by tearing his labrum after colliding with Travis Kelce in Week 1. He also dealt with ankle injuries throughout the season.

Still, Worthy managed to finish with 42 receptions for 532 receiving yards and one touchdown in just 14 games played.

Worthy has not put together an impressive body of work in the NFL just yet. Some fans might also not be confidenced about the hype because practices are non-contact at this point in the offseason. But Newell is still a believer in Worthy’s potential.

“I get that folks can be skeptical about how much we should glean from a speedy player like Worthy looking great during non-contact practices,” Newell added. “But look beyond that, and Worthy still checks a lot of boxes for a guy who could be in line for a huge jump in production.”

Worthy won’t have much competition for snaps this season. Star receiver Rashee Rice and veteran tight end Travis Kelce are the only real competition for targets on the roster. If Worthy can play at a high level, Patrick Mahomes will get him plenty of targets.

It will be fascinating to see how Worthy performs during training camp later this summer.
