Mansoor Delane was able to participate in OTAs, but he did not take part in minicamp. The Chiefs’ first-round rookie should be in place for the beginning of padded practices, however.

Delane was dealing with a shoulder injury during minicamp, head coach Andy Reid said. He added (via ESPN’s Nate Taylor) that was the cause for his absence during Kansas City’s final practices of the spring. Delane should be fully healed in time for the start of training camp, per Reid.

That would of course be critical for a Chiefs secondary which has undergone a number of changes this offseason. The loss of cornerbacks Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson – through trade and free agency, respectively – left that position as an area of need entering the draft. It came as no surprise when Kansas City saw Delane as a top target early in the first round. The team traded up to sixth overall in the order to move past New Orleans and select him.

Delane will no doubt be expected to operate as a full-time starter immediately for the Chiefs. The LSU product was widely seen as the draft’s top CB prospect, something which was cemented by his strong showing during the 2025 campaign. Delane’s lone season with the Tigers saw him record two interceptions, 11 pass deflections and 45 tackles. He earned All-American honors along the way.

Kansas City brought back L’Jarius Sneed earlier this month. The veteran endured a highly forgettable stint in Tennessee over the past two years, but he thrived while previously playing out his rookie contract with the Chiefs. Sneed will look to carve out a role in a familiar setting, and doing so could provide the team with veteran insurance in the secondary.

Regardless of how that plays out, having Delane at full strength for training camp and the preseason would be key. Barring any setbacks, that will indeed be the case.
