The Kansas City Chiefs are finishing 2025’s preseason schedule by hosting the Chicago Bears on GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Coming into the final matchup on the heels of two painful (but meaningless) exhibition losses, Kansas City wants to get its starters some work while it continues to evaluate its new players before Tuesday’s final cutdown to 53 players — and the season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers in Saõ Paulo, Brazil on September 5.

First quarter

The Bears won the coin toss and deferred. Rookie running back Brashard Smith took a kickoff from former Chief Cairo Santos and returned the ball to the Kansas City 31, where the starting offense took the field. Running back Isiah Pacheco gained six yards on first down. The Chiefs then gained over 30 yards via penalty as the Bears were flagged both for pass interference and a facemask on a Patrick Mahomes pass attempt to Rashee Rice. Mahomes was incomplete on his next two pass attempts, including Smith being unable to hold onto a pass over the middle. After a great sliding catch by JuJu Smith-Schuster, Smith redeemed himself with a 12-yard catch to set up first-and-goal at the Bears’ three-yard line. Pacheco punched the ball into the end zone two plays later. Harrison Butker was good on the extra point to open the lead at Chiefs 7, Bears 0.

A short kickoff return started the Bears at their own 30-yard line. On first down, quarterback Caleb Williams missed the snap, leading to an easy four-yard sack. A false start put them even further behind. Williams was incomplete on second down, before connecting with wideout DJ Moore on third down. Moore was tackled five yards behind the line to gain. Punter Tory Taylor came on, with receiver Nikko Remigio taking the ball for Kansas City. Remigio advanced near the 20-yard line, but a holding call would enforce half the distance to the goal, putting the Chiefs’ offense back on the field at their own seven-yard line.
