Kansas City players vote on the Derrick Thomas and Mack Lee Hill awards after every season.
The Kansas City Chiefs have announced their Derrick Thomas and Mack Lee Hill award winners for the 2024 NFL season. After finishing 15-2 and securing the AFC’s No. 1 seed, the Chiefs advanced to Super Bowl LIX.
A team vote determines these awards once the season ends.
Chiefs offensive lineman Joe Thuney won the Derrick Thomas (Most Valuable Player) Award for the first time.
Thuney began the season at his native position of left guard before shifting to left tackle in Week 15 — remaining there through the postseason. Despite playing out of position, he protected quarterback Patrick Mahomes well, helping the club reach the Super Bowl.
Taken in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, former Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy was named the Mack Lee Hill (Rookie of the Year) award winner.
Worthy caught 59 passes for 638 yards and six touchdowns during the 2024 regular season, adding 20 carries for 104 yards and three scores on the ground.
In the postseason, Worthy caught 19 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns — highlighted by a game-high eight catches for 157 yards and two scores in the Super Bowl. Unfortunately for Kansas City, most of Worthy’s Super Bowl production came after the championship game was already out of reach.
