The Kansas City Chiefs have made some big moves over the last few weeks, including extending the contract of quarterback Patrick Mahomes on a record-level salary on Wednesday. The Chiefs are hoping to bounce back after missing the playoffs altogether in 2025 for the first time in the Mahomes era.

Recently, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid gave an update on the training camp status of wide receiver Rashee Rice, who is currently behind bars for violating his probation.

“I think he will be. He gets out [of jail] next week. We’ll see where it goes. He’ll be back up here and working,” said Reid, per Nate Taylor of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.

Rice was initially on probation due to his role in a 2024 hit and run in the Dallas area, which ultimately cost him several games last season due to a suspension.

However, even once Rice returned to the lineup, the Chiefs still had some hiccups on offense, thanks in large part to the team’s inability to run the ball with any consistency. In fact, for a large chunk of the season, Mahomes himself was the team’s leading rusher.

This offseason, the Chiefs made a big stride to address that by signing Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker III in free agency away from the Seattle Seahawks. Walker figures to provide much more stability in Kansas City’s offensive backfield, and if Rice can stay healthy and out of trouble, the Chiefs could retake their mantle among the best offenses in the NFL landscape.

It will be interesting to see how fluid Mahomes’ movement is early in the season on the heels of his torn ACL last year, but as of now, all indications point to him making steady progress.

The Chiefs’ season is set to kick off on September 14.
