The Kansas City Chiefs are giving former second-round pick Skyy Moore a fresh start.

Per NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Chiefs have traded Skyy Moore to the San Francisco 49ers with a flip of 2027 sixth and seventh-round picks. Moore, who won back-to-back Super Bowls in 2022 and 2023, is entering the final year of his rookie contract.

This was the second notable wide receiver trade that unfolded on Wednesday evening. An hour earlier, the Denver Broncos traded Devaughn Vele to the New Orleans Saints for 2026 fourth and 2027 seventh-round picks.

The 49ers are already short on wide receiver bodies as Week 1 approaches. Brandon Aiyuk isn’t expected to return until Week 6 as he recovers from surgery on a torn ACL, and Demarcus Robinson was issued a three-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.

So getting a veteran with big-game experience like Skyy Moore is a tidy piece of work by 49ers GM John Lynch. The No. 54 pick of the 2022 NFL Draft never hit his ceiling in Kansas City, totaling 74 receptions for 494 yards and a touchdown.

Speaking of Super Bowl champion additions, the 49ers signed Nate Sudfeld (a Super Bowl 52 winner with the Philadelphia Eagles) as quarterback insurance following a knee injury to Mac Jones.

Skyy Moore Gets A Much-Needed Fresh Start

Per Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan didn’t give a clear-cut answer when asked if star wide receiver Jauan Jennings will be ready for Week 1.

With Aiyuk and Robinson ruled out for the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks, and with Jennings’ status unclear, Lynch had to make a move. So he brings in a speedy wide receiver who got lost in Kansas City’s deep room of pass-catchers led by Rashee Rice, Travis Kelce and Xavier Worthy.

The 49ers could be without their two best wide receivers and a reliable veteran like Robinson. A brilliant offensive-minded head coach like Shanahan has turned little-known players into studs during his career, so we’ll see if he can unlock Moore’s sky-high ceiling that the Chiefs never maximized.
