Folks, we have a new Pope, and it’s a stunner. The new Pope, head of the Roman Catholic Church and Bishop of Rome, is none other than Chicago native Robert Francis Prevost, a Villanova alum. He grew up a Cubs fan, has probably eaten at Portillo’s, and watched Villanova win two championships in three years in 2016 and 2018.
Needlees to say, the sports-related memes and tweets were everywhere on Twitter. But, one stood above the rest, and it came from media personality Annie Agar.
After four rounds of voting over two days, Prevost, now Pope Leo XIV, was elected by two-thirds of the College of Cardinals to become the 267th pope, and the first from America. While he’s spent much of his professional life as a clergymen in places like Peru, he was a born-and-raised Chicagoan. According to news reports, he grew up a Cubs fan.
An American Pope was not on the bingo card. Prevost’s odds were well over 100-1 on prediction markets But, he got it done. After he was announced on the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica this afternoon, the memes starting flying in. This one was by far the best.
Chicago produced a Pope before a QB who throws for 4000 yards.

It’s true! The Chicago Bears have never had a 4000-yard passer. I expected Caleb Williams to get to the milestone last year, but he fell just short. The Bears remain the only NFL team without one.
But, the city can now claim something no other American city have: they have produced a Pope.
