Not only was Caleb Williams not sacked on Sunday, but the Dallas Cowboys were only credited with a single QB hit in the Chicago Bears’ 31 to 14 win. It was the first time since November 11, 2023, that the Bears did not allow a sack.
The quarterback back in 2023 for that Thursday night contest was Tyson Bagent, and the Bears leaned on the run and the quick pass game to beat the Carolina Panthers 16-13. D’Onta Foreman had 80 rushing yards on 21 attempts and a touchdown, and Bagent was 20 for 33 (60.6%), for 162 yards (4.9 ypa), and a 73.0 passer rating. Chicago’s starting offensive line from left to right was Braxton Jones, Cody Whitehair, Lucas Patrick, Teven Jenkins, and Darnell Wright.
Jones and Wright are still manning the tackle spots for the Bears, and against Dallas, Jones put up his best game of the season by allowing zero pressures (per PFF). Considering in Weeks 1-2, Jones allowed a team-high 12 pressures on 79 pass-blocking attempts (per Next Gen Stats), pitching a shutout bodes well for his comeback from the broken ankle he suffered nine months ago. Wright didn’t have quite as clean a game as he struggled after hurting his arm, but when he’s good, he can do stuff like this.
Three weeks is a small sample size, but Chicago’s sack percentage under Ben Johnson has dropped drastically from 10.73 last season to 5.88 so far this year. Caleb’s sack percentage is 6.06 so far, which is below the league average of 6.66%.
It felt good not having to update the Sackwath tally this week!
Braxton Jones – 2
Caleb Williams – 2
Darnell Wright – 1
Drew Dalman – 1
