The pressure is on for Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams heading into his second season in the NFL, and it appears he’s already beginning to feel it.
Yes, Williams has played less than 20 games at the professional level. But he entered the NFL with a ton of expectations, and did little to curb those expectations before even throwing a single pass.
Instead, Williams was a disaster in his rookie year with the Bears. Williams struggled with accuracy, took to many sacks, and came under criticism for his lack of leadership throughout the season.
Now he has a chance to flip the script in year two, and he has a new head coach in Ben Johnson, who many believe is one of the best offensive minds in the league at his disposal. But the early returns are not looking great.
Williams had a number of issues in his rookie season. But perhaps his biggest issue was ball placement.
Williams completed just 35.6 percent of his throws of 10-plus yards in the air. Since 2000, 530 quarterbacks have thrown over 100 passes with 10-plus air yards. Williams ranks 520th of those 530 in completion percentage.
“Yeah, it’s frustrating. I hate missing passes. Especially ones I’ve been pretty consistent on for a good amount of time,” he said last season.
However, if a clip from Bears practice on Saturday is any indication, Williams’ accuracy hasn’t improved at all.

Williams missed four consecutive throws into a net from about 10 yards away. Afterward, he stormed away from the drill while yelling at himself in frustration.
It marks the second time in as many weeks that Williams’ accuracy issues have reared their head in practice. Previously, he struggled to get in sync with star wide receiver DJ Moore in a team drill, only for Moore to bail him out with a pair of great catches.
It’s clear that Williams cares, and that’s a great starting point. But if his accuracy continues to be this bad going forward, the Bears are going to back on the market for a QB sooner rather than later.
