The defense has been getting the best of the offense, but perhaps today they turned a corner.

Thus far during the Chicago Bears’ OTAs and minicamp, the defense has definitely gotten the best of the offense. It shouldn’t be too much of a surprise, usually, the defenses have the leg up on offenses earlier in the practice sessions, but on top of that, the entire team is learning a new offense (for the second consecutive year).

But after quite a few practices, when the defense had the leg up, perhaps the offense started turning the corner today.

Zack Pearson was at practice today and watched the Bears offense drive 94 yards for a score in the two-minute drill. The drive wasn’t perfect, you see from Zack that Caleb Williams was close to throwing a couple of interceptions, but you also see that Caleb is still slinging it and making some nice throws on the run.

It’ll be interesting to see where the offense goes as training camp opens next month. Will Braxton Jones be ready to go? We’ve seen multiple reports that Ozzie Trapilo is already outperforming Kiran Amedgadjie. There’s not too much you can tell from offensive linemen in shorts, but that’s still worth noting.

The practices have been very targeted. Ben Johnson has been working a lot with Caleb Williams on short, designed routes, but also making sure they let Caleb sling it and be himself as well.

There’s going to be plenty of growing pains the rest of OTAs and in training camp, but as long as we continue to see growth and positives, this offense should be ready to roll by September.
