Cheese Curds, 8/29: Packers praised, Cowboys lambasted for Parsons trade

Micah Parsons is a Green Bay Packer, and the Dallas Cowboys are getting torched today. They’re taking heat from all sides — from national media to their own fan base. Given what we know of the breakdown in negotiations between owner Jerry Jones and Parsons, that seems justified.

That’s the big criticism about the whole deal. Few Cowboys fans, if any, seem upset with Parsons about the whole situation. Indeed, given Jones’ final demand that Parsons play out 2025 on his fifth-year option and get franchise-tagged in 2026, it’s hard to blame the player for forcing his hand — especially when Parsons has been clear about his desire to stay in Dallas throughout this entire process.

But now, Brian Gutekunst has made the big deal that has eluded him in the past, and the Packers have a field-tilter to integrate into their defense. Yes, Kenny Clark is headed to Dallas, but it’s hard to imagine a world in which defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley is bummed out about the whole situation.

Stay tuned for the Packers to introduce Parsons officially in a press conference around 2:30 PM CT this afternoon. Until then, let’s continue to soak in the glow of the moment and get amped up for week one.

Jerry Jones’ stubborn missteps led the Cowboys into this Micah Parsons trainwreck | The Athletic The national media narrative is definitely not being kind to Jerry Jones today, and it’s hard to understate the contrast between the ownership structures of these two franchises. And it all comes down to one thing, according to Mike Silver: “The owner/GM tried to bamboozle Parsons, and circumvent NFL Players Association protocol, by discussing contract terms without the involvement of (his) agent.”
