When news broke that the Los Angeles Rams were trading Jared Verse, a first-round pick, and two more Day 2 selections for Myles Garrett, it changed the NFC West, the NFC period, and the entire NFL as a whole.
Suddenly, the Rams, a Super Bowl favorite, just added the single most dominant pass rusher in the NFL without sacrificing too much of their current core or future, and they might even have Aaron Donald coming too, with the majority of Los Angeles actively pleading with the future Hall of Famer to come out of retirement in pursuit of another ring.
Discussing how the Rams have bolstered their roster heading into 2026 on ESPN’s NFL Live, Chase Daniel revealed why pairing Garrett with Matthew Stafford creates the best possible situation for the former Cleveland Browns pass rusher to succeed.
“He’s gonna make an immediate impact. I mean, this is a team we’re talking about that was five points away from the Super Bowl without the best player in the NFL. Defense Player of the Year. Now you’re joining the MVP on the offensive side of things. My biggest thing is like the scary part of Myles Garrett’s production, which 23 sacks last year record. It all came with his team from behind. So teams are running the football more. When you look at this Rams team, they’re going to be playing with a lead most of the year. What does that mean, Jared? More opportunities to sack the rest,” Daniel said.
“Also, you look at that entire defensive line, Kobie Turner, Poona Ford, Byron Young, coming off a career year with 12 sacks. Look, every championship contender, which everyone could probably say this is the championship contender, Super Bowl contender without question right now on paper, as we’re sitting here on June the 3rd, every one of those teams need a closer. You could arguably say that now the Rams have the best offensive closer with Matthew Stafford and best defensive closer of football games with Myles Garrett. You put those four together. They’re going to get after the passer.”
As a team that secured just five wins in 2025, Garrett really didn’t get many chances to hunt opposing quarterbacks with a lead in the second half during his final season with the Browns. With Stafford running the show in Los Angeles, suddenly that paradigm will shift in a massive way, with Garrett getting to attack the likes of Brock Purdy, Sam Darnold, and whoever wins the Arizona Cardinals QB competition later this fall as his quarterback keeps running up the score.
