Bolts From The Blue
The Chargers had their first actual practice of their short Week Eight preparation for the Vikings and their injury report essentially copies their estimated report from Monday. The only difference being that defensive tackle Jamaree Caldwell was a sudden DNP due to an illness. That will be one name to watch on Wednesday as the Bolts will put out their final game designations for Thursday Night Football.
If Caldwell does not practice on Wednesday, he may very well be a game-time decision as, depending on the illness, it could disappear overnight. If he can’t go, the defensive line depth will be even thinner after Otito Ogbonnia was placed on IR this week.
The best news that came out of Thursday is the notion that both Joe Alt and Trey Pipkins are on the path to playing Thursday night. When asked about his chances of suiting up Thursday, Alt told reporters “that’s the plan.”
Two other important pieces of the defense could also be coming back in safety Elijah Molden and linebacker Troy Dye. Molden’s availability has become all the more pivotal for this team following the trade of Alohi Gilman to the Ravens and Dye has been more than solid when filling in for either Henley or Perryman. The Chargers need both talent and depth reinforcements so seeing both those players log at least a limited practice is a good sign.
