On Thursday morning, NFL insider Jordan Schulz reported that the Chargers are signing veteran safety Tony Jefferson to the active roster from the practice squad. Jefferson was most recently elevated from the practice squad to the game day roster this past Monday night before delivering an impact performance against the Raiders.

Playing mainly as the Chargersโ€™ third safety in place of the injured Elijah Molden, Jefferson posted five total tackles, two pass breakups, and an interception that helped keep the Raiders from scoring points near the end of the first half.

On Wednesday, Molden was once again a non-participant in practice with a hamstring injury and this signing likely shows the Chargers are preparing to be without Molden for another week.

Without Khalil Mack, the Chargers pass rush will be short-handed against a Broncos team currently allowing the lowest pressure rate against non-blitzes on passing downs. If thatโ€™s the case, the secondary will have to stay strapped in order to give the front line time to get after the athletic B0 Nix.
