On Tuesday afternoon, the Chargers announced their second signing following their rookie mini camp over the weekend. Per the team, the Bolts are adding former Raiders linebacker Kana’i Mauga to the roster. In a corresponding move, the team is waiving 2024 undrafted free agent linebacker Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste.
The 6’2, 245-pound has been a contributor for the Las Vegas Raiders over the past two seasons (2023-2024), seeing time in 17 games and recording six total tackles over that span. He also played a key role on special teams, mainly on kick coverages.
Mauga entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent (Broncos) out of USC where he spent four seasons with the Trojans (2018-2021). He started 24-of-43 games, recording 207 total tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, six pass breakups, three interceptions, and two forced fumbles. Following the 2021 season, Mauga was named a Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 selection.
Entering the 2025 season, Mauga is just 25 years old and figures to earn a role as core special teams player for coach Ryan Ficken.
