The Chargers announced the signing of fourth-round wide receiver Brenen Thompson to his four-year rookie contract on Thursday. The Bolts have now inked all eight members of their 2026 draft class.
The 5-foot-9, 164-pound Thompson is joining the Chargers on the heels of a four-year college career divided among Texas (2022), Oklahoma (2023-24) and Mississippi State (2025). Thompson combined for just 27 catches in his first three seasons, partly because of injuries, but he had a breakout campaign with the Bulldogs last year. Over 13 games, Thompson hauled in 57 catches, an SEC-leading 1,054 yards and six touchdowns en route to second-team all-conference honors. He also notched 10 receptions of at least 40 yards, (h/t: Dane Brugler of The Athletic).
Thompson continued to impress in February at the Combine, where he led all receivers with a blazing 4.26-yard 40-second dash. Despite his lack of size, Thompson’s top-end speed makes him a threat to score from anywhere, notes Brugler, who ranked him as the 82nd-best player available in this year’s draft. The Chargers got him at No. 105. As he begins his NFL career, Thompson will provide another outside option in a receiving corps that also includes Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, 2025 second-rounder Tre Harris and 2025 fifth-rounder KeAndre Lambert-Smith.
