Troy Dye started 5 games at linebacker and played in all 17 contests with the Chargers in his first season on the West Coast.

A day after the Texans signed linebacker and core special-teamer Nick Niemann, the Chargers are making sure to keep at least one of their stud kick coverage players in LA. Per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Chargers are signing linebacker Troy Dye to a two-year, $5.5 million deal that could hit $8 million.

Dye was signed by the Chargers in March of 2024 after spending his first four seasons with the Vikings. Originally a fourth-round selection out of Oregon, Dye spent most of his time as a backup in Minnesota, recording eight starts in 60 games. In his first season with the Bolts, Dye played in 17 games with five starts. He recorded career-highs across the board with 57 tackles, two tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks.

This move was greatly needed following Niemann’s departure to Houston. The Chargers could not afford to lose both of their best players on kick coverages and for at least the forseeable future, Ryan Ficken retains one of his best going into year two of the Jim Harbaugh era.

In another bit of news, the Chargers also officially announced a contract extension with wideout/return man Jalen Reagor.

Reagor played in eight games for the Chargers in 2024, posting seven receptions for 100 yards.
