Najee Harris was involved in a fireworks accident in Antioch, California during the Fourth of July but received only a “superficial” injury to his eye.
On Thursday, the news broke that Chargers running back Najee Harris was involved in a fireworks accident on the Fourth of July while celebrating the holiday in Antioch, California. According to his agent Doug Hendrickson, Harris was one of several attendees who sustained injuries.
“Najee Harris was present at a 4th of July event where a fireworks mishap resulted in injuries to several attendees,” Hendrickson said in a statement, via Rapoport. “Najee sustained a superficial eye injury during the incident, but is fully expected to be ready for the upcoming NFL season.”
So the biggest things to highlight is that the injury is superficial, meaning that it is just affecting the surface of his face/eye. You’d like to believe his agent is being truthful and is not covering up more severe consequences from the accident, but only time will tell until we actually see Harris in person or in front of the podium.
If Harris’ agent is going as far as to claim he’ll be ready for the upcoming season, then maybe there’s nothing to worry about. At the same time, the lack of specificity from the agent leaves room for us to surmise that Harris may not be available for parts of training camp and/or the preseason. Not that he’d play much at all in August, but if he’s not even on the field to practice, then there may be some actual cause for concern.
As for now, we’re just glad to hear that he’s safe and in good health following what could have been a much worse event for him.
